Regularly inspecting your fuel tank is crucial to prevent damage, leaks, or environmental risks. Here's a guide to help you maintain your tank.

What to Check

  • Check for damage: rust, cracks, bulging, faulty gauges, subsidence, oil stains, or strong smells.
  • Inspect pipework, valves, and filters for leaks.
  • Check bunds (secondary containment) for liquid or rubbish.
  • Ensure the gauge is working properly.
  • Trim vegetation around the tank.
  • Check that drip trays are free of oil or water.

How to Check the Oil Level

  • Remove the cap from the top of the tank.
  • Insert a dipstick or garden cane to the bottom of the tank.
  • Withdraw the stick and observe the oil level mark.
  • Check levels regularly to avoid running out.
  • Have the tank inspected annually by an OFTEC-registered engineer.
